Windows 8 Weather App With Gorgeous Animated Backgrounds

Whether you’re planning a trip across the vast shores of Australia, doing some mountain climbing in the Alps, or just going about your daily routine,  keeping an eye on the weather forecast plays a significant role in determining what to do, when to do it, and what to wear for it. But given the amount of weather apps that are now available on both desktop and mobile platforms, it can be fairly difficult to select one as your daily forecast guide. Previously, we have covered some really fascinating weather apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Web, Windows Phone et al, and today we’re taking a look at another such app – WeatherFlow. Contrary to our previously reviewed Breezy that looked quite minimalistic from top to bottom, W000eatherFlow sport a host of gorgeous weather effects that dynamically change according to the weather conditions in the selected location.

Available for free at Windows Store, WeatherFlow can prove to be be a great alternative to the native Modern UI Weather app. It provides hourly forecast information for more than 80,000 locations around the world.

The app also lets you pin live tiles displaying weather information of your favorite locations to the Start Screen. This lets you view the forecast for these locations without even launching the app. Upon launch, the app displays animated weather condition in the background, with all the pertaining information laid out on top of it. It lets you know about about the current temperature, the expected minimum and maximum temperature for the day, wind speed, sunrise and sunset times, visibility, UV intensity, precipitation etc. It also displays the weather forecast for the next 24 hours, as well as the daily forecast for the next five days.

Most weather apps support both Fahrenheit and Celsius units to display temperature, and WeatherFlow is no exception in this regard. You can switch between metric and imperial units from the settings bar. In addition, the Settings menu also lets you change between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats.

If you frequently travel around different destinations, WeatherFlow can help you keep an eye on weather conditions for all those locations. Right-click anywhere on the interface and the app will let you select among the available locations that you’ve added. If you want to add a new country, city or town, simply click or tap Manage Location in the app bar and then type your desired location in the search field. To add a new location, simply click or tap Manage Location in the app bar and then type your desired location in the search field.

Apart from letting you manage your locations, the bottom app bar lets you pin a live tile for the currently selected location to your Start Screen, reload weather information, and delete the currently selected location. The app bar at the top enables you to switch among the different locations that you’ve added.

In a nutshell, WeatherFlow is a great weather app for Windows 8 and RT that impresses with its beautiful graphics and useful features. Testing of the app was carried out on Windows 8 Pro, 64-bit OS edition.
