TECH-OPHTHALMOLOGY/CMA Washington Twp/Sewell, NJ Satellite
Job Summary: Under the supervision of an ophthalmologist, provides eye screening and diagnostic testing necessary for the evaluation of patient eye problems. Under the supervision of clinical supervisor/provider, provides clinical support to medical and surgical specialist in the office setting. Provides clerical/administrative support as needed. 1. Prepares patients for examination by the physician by performing preliminary screening examinations for physician review including but not limited to the following: a. measures visual acuity of patient b. obtains patientâ€™s chief complaint, vitals, history and all pertinent clinical information within scope of position as required (refer to NextGen job aide and specialty specific job aides). c. tests IOP, EOMâ€™s, CVF, checks for APD, reads glasses and dilated patients d. performs simple color vision testing, Schirmerâ€™s tests e. organizes orders, schedules diagnostic testing (i.e.: EKG, pulse ox) and tracks results f. provides assistance to providers upon request g. ensures necessary records are e 2. Provides scheduling services for physicians to include appointments, surgical procedures, and testing a. schedules patient appointments and registers them in the NextGen system as back-up to front desk b. schedules patient surgeries ensuring that all necessary paperwork, insurance referrals and precertificationâ€™s are obtained. Ensures active, accurate referrals are present for visit. c. acts as contact person for ER patients 3. Provides administrative/clerical support as needed a. ensures all correspondence to patients, referring physicians, insurance companies, etc. are copied, mailed, scanned and filed in a timely manner. Ensures all information related to patient calls/provider inquiries, etc. are logged into the electronic medical record. Responds to portal inquiries from patients. b. creates forms for patient clinical needs 4. Order clinical supplies as necessary with a watchful eye on par levels 5. Maintain oversight/cleanliness of all specialty equipment when on duty for specific specialty(ies). 6. Training & Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or certified medical assistant willing to train and become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Experience: Two to three years COA or MA experience preferred.
