  • Responsible for managing purchased material requirements (including Customer Services) and taking appropriate actions to ensure material availability when needed, with appropriate inventory levels.

Develops and maintains planning data with MRP

Releases orders to suppliers – coordinate with buyers on capacity

Coordinate with Mfg Production Scheduler

Reports shortages

Collaborate with Buyer and SDE as well as internal customer on ordering technique

  • Responsible for keeping purchased material supermarkets (internal or external) filled for assigned parts:

Monitor response time and communicate gaps to Buyer and SDE

Manage inventory within established policies and/or supermarket size parameters

  • Focal point for purchased material commitments, follow up with supplier deliveries, and schedule changes:

Investigate schedule delays, establish and communicate revised schedules.

When constraints exist, work with the business to prioritize enterprise requirements based on need.

Provide material shortage report.

Reschedule purchased material commit dates.

Monitors and provide input to Buyer on supplier delivery performance.

  • Actively involved in the change configuration process and responsible for establishing purchased part implementation dates. Monitor revision changes of purchased parts into supermarkets with Supplier, Supplier Development Engineer and Production Scheduler in Manufacturing.
  • Responsible for planning and logistics for subcontract make complete parts (e.g., drop ship of castings to a machine house or processing supplier).
  • Is NOT responsible for parts that have already begun the manufacturing process at Solar and require an OV process planning or releasing orders (e.g., coating, heat treat). This responsibility belongs to the Production Scheduler.
  • Provide supplier schedule information for NPI on specific assigned parts.
  • Maintain data accuracy in the BAAN system (e.g., ensure dates are current, part set-up, lot sizes, etc).
  • Participate in 6 Sigma teams.
  • Manages inactive or obsolete inventories

Minimum Qualifications

10 years of experience in production planning

High school diploma, GED or equivalent

Project coordination, scheduling & organizational skills

Basic understanding of manufacturing operations

Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities

Strong oral and written communication skills

Analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills

Computer/system skills

Customer focus

Understanding of ethical business practices/CAT code of conduct

Inventory/planning data knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

Product and commodity knowledge – Industrial Gas Turbine Engine components

Forecasting Methodologies

Understanding of Material Resource Planning (MRP) & Reorder Point Planning (ROP)

6 Sigma Green Belt

Ability to speak multiple languages and cultural knowledge (to enhance communication with suppliers and within Solar).

Knowledge & ability to work in the ERP system Baan

Relocation Eligibility This position does not qualify for relocation.

Travel Requirements Less than 25%
