The student intern will support the Project Delivery Group in the planning, design and construction of physical capital assets (water/wastewater plants, pumping stations, storage and transmission facilities, and rehabilitation projects). Will work under general direction of a Unit Coordinator in the execution of a broad range of project management assignments.

Essential Functions

  • Supports the Project Manager in one or more of the following:
  • Managing planning, design or construction projects such as treatment plants, pumping stations, transmission projects, or other facilities;
  • Management of projects to deliver organizational, program, or corporate benefits and improvements;
  • Assisting a senior project manager with larger projects;
  • Consults and works with team members from other internal organizations, under the guidance of the Project Manager, in the administration of consultant, Architect/Engineer (A/E) and construction contracts and their associated procurement mechanisms;
  • Supports Project Manager with the review of project technical, management, and budgetary plans. Ensures project compliance with corporate policy and technical specifications;
  • Assists with the review and approval of monthly and final payments to A/Es, contractors, and vendors;
  • Participates in project teams, including management review, re-engineering, and policy groups;
  • Assists with reviews, negotiations, and finalization of contracts and change orders;
  • Assists with preparation or monitoring of project schedules using PERT , CPM , Bar Chart, or other methods;
  • Participates in meetings and assists with the review and preparation of meeting notes;
  • Assists with development and implementation of project management strategic plans and resultant monitoring mechanisms.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as required.

Work Environment And Physical Demands

  • Ability to climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and elevated locations;
  • Ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds;
  • Utilize appropriate safety equipment and procedures effectively;
  • Ability to hear audible alarms and abnormal equipment noises;
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment and processes any time of day or night;
  • Good physical condition, particularly absence of respiratory and back problems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and AutoCAD;
  • Strong computer knowledge and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders such as consultants, contractors, and internal staff.

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior at a minimum;
  • Major in environmental or civil engineering, or related discipline.
