Position Objective:

The SSO will play an instrumental role in minimizing our exposure to loss while promoting a positive shopping environment to all of our customers. The SSO will work to establish and maintain a safe working environment for all associates and customers. The SSO will also be assisting in identifying losses and developing actionable plans to prevent further loss and reduce shrinkage while promoting asset protection awareness within stores. The VSO is primarily stationed at the customer entrances and monitors customer traffic entering and exiting the store or specific departments based on job post.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor customer traffic entering and exiting the store
  • Communicate all suspicious activity to the Loss Prevention Department to prevent potential theft
  • May perform audit functions in high shortage areas
  • Have knowledge of and maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions, searches and seizures, and the preservation of evidence
  • Works on special assignments, investigations, and surveillance as directed by the District AP Manager
  • Maintain a safe business environment

Minimum Requirements

Education:

High school diploma

Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years asset protection / loss prevention or security experience in a retail facility.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to use judgment and apply common sense when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work independently. Self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Working knowledge of key physical security systems, such as alarms, and EAS tagging.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

  • This position requires regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking. Extended periods of sitting are also required. Some kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling may be required.
  • Must be able to move and/or lift at least 30 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to use restraints in an apprehension.
  • Ability to sustain long periods of time enclosed in surveillance areas.
