The individual hired will collaborate on projects analyzing electronic health record (EHR) data and Medicare/Medicaid data. One project will be directed by Dr. Becky Briesacher at Northeastern University and is a nationwide examination of the current landscape of drug utilization and drug coverage in US nursing homes. The other project will involve supporting research in Tufts Medical Center’s Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies Predictive Analytics and Comparative Effectiveness (PACE) center, directed by Dr.
David Kent. The goal of the PACE center is to provide clinicians and patients with evidence tailored to their particular circumstances. PACE investigators use large datasets from EHR and claims records to develop and evaluate statistical models to help achieve this goal. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1.
Works with researchers and senior statisticians to provide statistical support for research projects. Assists researchers with the design of experiments, construction of database, data management and analysis of data 2. Ensures that databases comply with HIPAA regulations 3. Assists with preparation of grants and research protocols 4.
Assists with preparation of manuscripts and presentations 5. Attends regular research meetings 6. Maintains and increases statistical skills through educational opportunities including seminars, lectures, courses, and reading of current literature 7. Actively participates in local research seminars and lectures III.
JOB REQUIREMENTS : A. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 1. Knowledge of, and experience with, application of statistical methods for analysis of biomedical data and ability to learn and apply unfamiliar methodologies 2. Programming capabilities in SAS and R and ability to learn new statistical packages and computing environments 3.
Ability to program using large healthcare data sets 4. Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative, team-oriented environment 5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 6. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, particularly the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical colleagues 7.
Ability to work on multiple projects in the same time frame, including both long-term and short-term projects 8. Ability to self-monitor progress on long-term projects and complete assigned tasks independently 9. Flexibility of schedule and ability to change priorities quickly in response to deadlines B. EDUCATION: Masters degree in statistics or biostatistics, or related field required.
C. EXPERIENCE: · Two to three years of experience in a medical or health policy research environment is desired. Evidence of completion of an independent research project is desirable. · Experience in computer programming, managing statistical databases and analyzing biomedical and healthcare data is required.
Experience with SAS and R programming is required. Experience with Stata is desirable. Experience with Excel, REDCap and StudyTRAX is desirable.
