The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House provides a community supported “home away from home” for families coming into Pasadena to seek advanced medical treatment for their critically or terminally ill children. Premature births, cancer and other critical illnesses can put unimaginable stress on a family and, in addition, many families must travel great distances looking for treatments and answers not found near their home – we’re here to help. Since opening in 2004, we have served more than 18,000 children and families. The Pasadena House is one of the six Ronald McDonald Houses of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California.

The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House is looking for talented and passionate individuals to serve as College Student Interns for Spring and Summer 2017. Students will gain hands-on experience in a non-profit setting and learn about working for a mission-driven organization. This is an unpaid position , but college credit can be available through your college or university. Students’ schedules and projects will be customized to meet the individual educational and career objectives of the candidates but fall primarily into three areas:

  • Special Events: As a member of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House Development Team, the Special Event Intern is responsible for supporting event planning tasks – primarily the Fall Gala and the Spring Walk for Kids, as well as third party fundraisers.
  • Administrative: The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House is seeking an intern who can support all of the House’s administrative tasks. This position is ideal for interested students looking to learn about nonprofit organizations and administrative work.
  • Development: As a member of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House Development Team, the Development/Administrative Intern is responsible for supporting donor cultivation activities, researching potential donors, supporting development communications and other administrative tasks.

Time Commitment

Student Volunteers should be able to work in the office 10-20 hours per week; however hours are flexible.

Compensation

This is an unpaid and volunteer position. College credit may be available through your college or university.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Working toward Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or Development Certificate
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, proficiency with donor database desired
  • Experience in fundraising campaigns and/or public relations for a nonprofit organization a plus
  • Some positions may require willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-starter with initiative
  • Willingness to learn
