SBF With MR3 For Motorola Photon 4G Leaked–Unbricks Device

The Maintenance Release 3 for the Motorola Photon 4G has been leaked on XDA-Developers and comes as an SBF that can be easily flashed via RSD Lite. This is the first SBF for the Photon 4G that has been released for download and this also means that those of you who tried messing around with the device and ended up soft bricking it, finally have a shot at bringing it back from the grave. As mentioned earlier the SBF is an MR3 release, hence containing quite a few bug fixes such as sound issues and more. Credits for leaking this onto the internet goes to XDA-Developers forum member Yay 4 Juggs.

Right now, there are no specific details as to what the MR3 actually fixes but according to some users on the forum, the release has addressed majority of the issues, a list of which can be found here at the Photon 4G problems thread at XDA-Developers.

As for flashing this onto your phone, you need to know that you WILL loose root but your SD card will not be erased. Of course you can root back after flashing the SBF by following our guide on rooting the Photon 4G. As for now, here’s how you can flash this on your Photon 4G.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

  1. To begin, download RSD Lite and the drivers from the link above and consequently install the drivers.
  2. Download the MR3 SBF package and extract it.
  3. Power off the phone and then hold the Volume Up key and Power button together till you see RSD at the top of the screen.
  4. Now, launch RSD Lite on your PC and click the “” button next to the box labeled Filename.
  5. Choose the SBF file you extracted from the MR3 download.
  6. Plug the device to the PC via USB and RSD Lite should recognize the device.
  7. Hit the Start button and sit back and relax as the files are flashed to your phone.
  8. Once the files are flashed and the phone reboots, it may require activation again.

That’s it! Hopefully if you tried this on a soft bricked phone, it was revived through this SBF file. For updates and queries, head over to the forum thread at XDA-Developers.
