Play Nintendo 64 Games On Android With Bit64 [Emulator]

Are you a Nintendo fan? How about playing Nintendo 64 games on your Android device? Bit64 is a free N64 emulator for Android that lets you play your favorite N64 games on your Android device with full-screen support, high quality audio output and fully customizable emulator settings. Some of the core features of Bit64 include the ability to save/load game states, translucent on-screen keypad, dedicated shortcut keys for quick game save/load, manual key mapping option, multiple screen orientation settings, customizable sensor sensitivity and advanced audio/video settings.

Although Bit64 is not the first or the only solution to satiate your craving for some old-school Nintendo gaming, it is among the few ones that has been able to survive in the Android Market longer than most. Bit64 is a port of the famous Mupen64plus, along with Ari64’s ARM dynarec and gles2N64 that support high-end graphics with all the aforementioned features to run N64 ROMs smoothly on your Android. That said, to run Bit64 effectively, you must have a high-end Android device such as Samsung Galaxy-S, Xoom or Nexus-S etc. And if you have Android 3.1 or higher, you can also enjoy generic joystick/gamepad support. As is evident from the screenshots below, once a game is loaded, you can take over its controls using semi-transparent screen overlay controls. The left side of the screen (in landscape orientation) displays the 4-way navigation controls whereas the right side holds the action buttons. From within the app’s settings screen, you can define key mappings from scratch, toggle virtual keypad settings, and define the sensor sensitivity as per your liking (for motion sensor games).

Installing Bit64 is fairly simple and running N64 games on it is even simpler. Just copy ROMs of your favorite N64 games on your SD card, launch Bit64, load your desired ROM and enjoy. We successfully tested Bit64 on Samsung Galaxy S and we must say that the app responded almost flawlessly with all the ROMs fed to it during our brief test run.

Earlier, users had the option to play N64 games on their Android through N64oid – another N64 emulator for Android that had to be purchased. However, Bit64 can be commended for its availability in the Android Market free of cost which is surely going to fetch it a huge fan base.

Update: Like most emulators, Bit64 also seems to have been pulled from the Google Play Store.
