The Online Merchandiser assists in meeting planned sales goals for their online categories.

The role entails optimizing the online shopping experience on Sears.com. The role assists with driving site traffic through external marketing efforts while increasing conversion through site presentation and product merchandising. Web analytics are used to identify and react to areas of opportunities.

The position interacts with the Business Unit management team, online and store buying teams, merchandising support, and marketing/promotions teams; additionally, there will also be some interaction with ecommerce product management, user experience, site promotions and other teams.

1. BUSINESS ANALYSIS

  • Review web metrics, daily sales, and other performance reports; define and activate actions.
  • Understand trends & business plans/strategies; use this information to inform appropriate actions.

2. SITE OPTIMIZATION

  • Merchandise all assortment types to drive for the most satisfied members and highest profitability.
  • Check site daily for broken issues and ad errors.
  • Maintain and enhance site navigation paths such as search terms, fly-outs, left navigation and visual categories.
  • Create product pages to highlight trends and promotions.
  • Assure products are in appropriate categories with correct images, titles and descriptions.
  • Identify and react upon opportunities for category and product page enhancements.
  • Pull coordinating items together into a collection.
  • Monitor member experience and ensure the desired products have high visibility.
  • Forecast monthly forecasts and inform the annual planning process

3. MARKETING & PROMOTIONS

  • Understand and incorporate the Store and Online promotion plans into site messaging.
  • Communicate weekly promotions and product launches.
  • Provide top search terms to paid search team.
  • Plan marketing assets using content from internal databases.
  • Test deals and troubleshoot errors.

4. INVENTORY

  • Review inventory reports to identify products needing special attention.
  • Assist inventory team with locating product assets.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Education/Training Bachelors degree from four-year college or university or four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience within apparel, baby, and beauty categories preferred.
  • Prior e-commerce experience is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and retail math literacy.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of desktop applications and Windows-based programs.
  • Passion for ecommerce merchandising.
