Maintenance/Safety Worker job – Fred Finch Youth Center – Oakland, CA

The Worker reports to the Facilities Supervisor and is a member of a team that is responsible for overall repair, painting, plumbing, and electrical work; documentation of repairs; as well as delivery of and pick up supplies for various departments. This position is also responsible for maintenance and repair of all safety related equipment.

:

Maintenance : 1) Repairs program equipment, furniture, and building apparatuses (doors, windows, lights, floor coverings, etc.). 2) Repairs and paints rooms and buildings, including plumbing and electrical work. 3) Maintains campus safety related equipment. 4) Assists in moving furniture and doing light carpentry as needed.

Vehicles : 1) Drives agency vehicles for purposes of picking up or delivering items as needed or conveying vehicle to a repair shop. 2) Monitors vehicle maintenance as needed.

Documentation : 1) Records and reports repair or replacement needs for equipment and orders of supplies.

Compliance: 1) Maintains excellent professional boundaries and adheres to all professional ethical standards including abuse reporting, and maintenance of participant confidentiality. 2) Adheres to all agency and program policies including Boundary Code of Ethics, Core Competencies, Code of Conduct, Employee Handbook and state and federal regulations.

Professional Development : 1) Attends and participates in all required agency mandated staff meetings and trainings. 2) Participates in individual and group supervision. 3) Attends additional trainings as assigned, which may include professional development activities approved by supervisor.

Other Duties : 1) Participates, on a rotating basis, providing on-call services for the Maintenance Department. 2) Other related maintenance duties commensurate[LW1] with the skills of the employee may be assigned

Required

High School Diploma 2. Clean driving record; current CA Driver’s License required, or ability to obtain within 10 days after hired. 3. Ability to drive vans and light trucks safely. 4. Three (3) or more years’ general maintenance experience in building/equipment maintenance and repairs. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of shop equipment and tools. 6. Demonstrated knowledge of building materials and their use. 7. Superior customer service, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. 8. Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred

1. CAL-OSHA training and certification. 2. Safety Instructor. 3. Safety Equipment management and maintenance. 4. Work order and ticketing system usage. 5. Working near and around children

: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to comprehend, follow and clearly convey instructions.

Possess ability to climb stairs/ladders in order to change light bulbs, clean/repair high windows, paint walls/ceilings, reach for stacked products, etc.

Must be able to bend/kneel/squat/stretch and lift as much as 50 lbs.

Must be able to stand/walk 75% of work day.

Must be able to operate power machinery; i.e. rug shampoo cleaners, power saws, and light carpentry tools.

Must be licensed and have the ability and skill to drive cars, trucks, vans, or other vehicles.
