This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit based position with an anticipated end date of June 25, 2017.

Maher Detail are assigned to operate in the Maher building. The primary duties of the Maher Detail is to deter criminal activity and misconduct. This position will provide a security presence and observe and report suspicious activity or unauthorized individuals during evening hours. The Maher detail will communicate by two-way radio with the public safety dispatch, and report anything unusual, unauthorized persons, suspicious activity, hazards or potential problems and request the assistance of public safety officers when necessary. Supervision received: operates under the supervision of the sergeant and general supervision of the patrol lieutenant.

Examples of Work

  • Report to the shift supervisor when suspicious or unlawful acts are seen. Intervenes when appropriate.
  • Observes and reports safety hazards to the proper persons or department for correction; make recommendation when appropriate to reduce or eliminate conditions that lend themselves to unsafe conditions or expose the University and personal property to theft and damage.
  • Respond to request for emergency and routine medical assistance; determine medical needs, administer first aid as necessary, and summon additional medical assistance as required . Job Requirements


  • Must be 18 years old
  • Valid and current BSIS guard permit issued by the State of California
  • Valid California driver license with good driving record
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Be able to pass a background check, including criminal history and personal references.
  • Must have the ability to operate a portable two-way radio; good communication skills; ability to work with a diverse campus community of students, faculty, staff, and visitors; ability to work nights. Candidates with previous military, law enforcement or security guard experience preferred.

Special Conditions of Employment

Must undergo a background investigation. Must have guard registration and firearm permit issued by State of California, valid CPR and First Aid cards (in some circumstances training and certification can be completed after start date). Must possess and maintain a valid California driver license.

Salary: $13.50 per hour

Hours: Friday & Saturday; 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
