Job Summary

Supplies clean and sanitary linen to departments throughout the Medical Center. Keeps records on the disbursement of clean linens throughout the Medical Center, while tabulating the soiled linen sent to the laundry daily.

Essential Functions

  • Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patients rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.
  • Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
  • Assists laundry truck drivers with the loading and unloading of clean and soiled linens and/or supplies. Transports clean linen to the Linen Room.
  • Fills the linen requirement of individual Nursing Units and other departments in accordance with pre-established linen quotas. Fills daily emergency requests for linens in addition to the pre-scheduled deliveries. On a daily basis, delivers replenished carts to the units. The used or partially used carts are transported to the Main Linen Holding area where they are cleaned and replenished for the following day’s deliveries.
  • Follows Hospital Infection Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Follows Hospital safety guidelines for self, patients, visitors and employees.
  • Issues Lab Coats and Surgical scrubs clothes to authorized personnel as required while maintaining the necessary records of issuance and returns.
  • Keeps linen chutes free of soiled linen and performs necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure that the rooms for each Nursing Unit are clean and orderly. Places soiled linen into carts and delivers to a special soiled linen area on the Hospital loading dock for transport to a contracted laundry. Weighs carts and keeps accurate records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains a professional work environment; keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Maintains an accurate count of all linens sent to the departments on a daily basis.
  • Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the department.
  • Maintains professional and self-development by participation in educational opportunities that are available internally and externally.
  • Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems.
  • May assist supervisor in the performance of limited clerical duties.
  • May be assigned to inventory the linen items, supplies and disposable products stored in the Main Linen Holding areas.
  • Observes the established regulations regarding the transport and handling of clean/soiled linens and supplies throughout the Medical Center.
  • Performs necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure that all linen storage areas are neat and clean.
  • Responds to patient and non-patient emergencies according to Hospital policies and procedures and job requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent

License/Certification: California Driver’s License (CDL)
