Lecturer job – University of Florida – Gainesville, FL

This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 70% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), 20% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 10% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), available in IFAS/Microbiology & Cell Science, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.

Duties will include :

  • Teach a 3-credit undergraduate/graduate course in genomics during the Fall or Spring semester.
  • Teach a 2-credit course for the College of Nursing on the genetics and genomics of health care.
  • Assist with a 3-credit undergraduate/graduate Microbiome course offered each Spring semester.
  • Lead the department’s science education research efforts and submit at least one grant proposal at the federal level each year in support of science education.
  • Lead the department’s effort in publishing our science education research. One paper per year is the expected output of this position.
  • Lead the department’s extension efforts by serving as the department’s Extension Coordinator and providing outreach for our science education efforts.
  • The departmental home for this position is the Department of Microbiology & Cell Science. The faculty member will participate actively in undergraduate education and will seek contract and grant funding actively to support his/her research program. The faculty member will lead the department’s extension efforts as the department’s Extension Coordinator.

    The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

    Minimum Requirements:

    A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Genetics, Genomics, Microbiology or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in teaching with distance technology, verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
