How To Add A TV Provider Account In iOS 10

Apple has steadily been releasing iOS 10.2 betas to both developers and the public. One of the major new features coming to iPhones with iOS 10.2 is the TV app. Apple has been working to improve Apple TV and there is now a companion app for it on the iPhone. The app doesn’t do much just now. It has a store of its own for downloading content, and it can manager your library. Most of it isn’t functional. The TV app also has a setting preference of its own in the Settings app however, iOS 10.2 also has a brand new setting for adding TV providers that will work with the TV app. Here’s how you can add a TV provider in iOS 10.2

Open the Settings app and scroll down to the section for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Vimeo accounts. You will see a new preference panel called ‘TV Provider’. Much like all the other preferences in this group, this is for connecting your TV provider account.

Tap the preference to select an account type. In the current iOS 10.2 Beta 3, there is support for Dish, GVTC Communications, Hotwire, and Sling TV.

Tap the provider you have an account with and you will be asked to sign in with your account. If you use a provider that isn’t currently supported, for example HBO, you need to use the HBO Go app to add the provider.

The TV app can show you content from whichever provider account you’ve connected, or whichever app you have installed. We’re not sure if this includes Netflix or not but HBO Go, Hulu, and Xfinity are probably supported.

One might wonder why you need the TV app on your iPhone. It’s highly unlikely that you will binge-watch an entire series or a trilogy on your iPhone however, you might watch something on your iPad which is where it can be handy. It’s also a good way to manage items in your library and buy content to watch.
