Dental Laboratory Manager job – Midwestern University – Downers Grove, IL

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor all out-going and in-coming laboratory cases
Recognize deficiencies at both the out-going and in-coming stages of dental laboratory interaction and manage those deficiencies appropriately and according to the protocol of the dental clinic
Record and organize laboratory charges
Recognize inconsistencies and errors in laboratory billing
Record and organize data import into the electronic student management system
Read and evaluate written laboratory prescriptions
Instruct students with respect to properly constructed and prepared laboratory prescription
Handle, produce, and/or repair dental prostheses
Create dental casts and models.
Finish and polish dental prostheses
Modify metal restorations, e.g. addition of positive proximal contacts.
Demonstrate knowledge of porcelain furnaces
Use porcelain furnaces in order to perform customized staining of porcelain restorations
Use the CAD/CAM system to produce provisional and definitive restorations
Other duties may be assigned

Other Qualifications

The individual must have the ability to become familiar with axiUm Dental Software Management System and the CAD/CAM system. Demanding precision, the technician should enjoy detail work and work cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff. The individual must be versed in processing and repair of acrylic prostheses, porcelain staining, and adding contact to gold restorations. This position requires a significant amount of interaction with the public and many internal customers and therefore, the individual must be able to develop positive rapport effectively. The ability to maintain a professional demeanor, be detail oriented and promote a welcoming atmosphere is essential.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED, minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a commercial laboratory and Certification as a Dental Technician required. The ability to instruct and demonstrate laboratory procedures to students is also required. Experience working in a team and customer service oriented environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to become familiar with the axiUm Clinic Management System and the CAD/CAM system.

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Basic skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

This position requires that the technician have excellent manual dexterity.
