ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates safety programs, policies, and procedures and provides assistance to management and professional-level employees, corporate-wide, to ensure the Company is compliant with all health and safety regulations and standards
Informs management of safety issues and activities necessary to ensure compliance
Provides assistance, as assigned, to one or more of the following programs for all facilities: Process Safety Management, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), Behavior Safety program, Personnel safety and training, Industrial Hygiene program, and safe work permitting programs
Facilitates corporate safety audits and participates in third party compliance audits of the company’s facilities
Assists with reviews and preparation of compliance schedules and inspection reports to assist facilities in ensuring compliance with all related and pertinent regulatory agencies
Proposes company-wide safety policies, plans, and initiatives and assists with implementation of programs to train managers and employees in work place safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials
Assists with inspections of facilities siting standards and fire protection programs
Provides support for company emergency response teams and facility security, including DHS regulation
Tracks safety performance standards and measures and recommends program improvements
Provides documentation and safety and health analysis for review
Prepares comments on proposed safety and health regulations
May represent the company to governmental agencies, the public, and trade/professional associations and interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable safety and health regulations and requirements
Depending on assignment, may also support development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of corporate EHS data information system and provide initial and ongoing training and support as needed
Depending on assignment, may also administer company safety data sheet (SDS) database and provide assistance in the coordination of authoring new/ intermediate product safety data sheets (SDSs)
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
A minimum of three (3) years of safety and health experience in petroleum refining, pipelines, terminals and/or oil & gas industry is required.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree (four years in addition to the experience requirement), is required.
Ability to provide technical expertise to facility staffs. Strong communication skills and good technical writing skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; advanced reading and writing skills and ability to effectively communicate with others both verbally and in writing. Good understanding of laws, pronouncements and regulations pertaining to health and safety operations. Good planning, organizational, leadership, and analytical skills; and ability to present publicly.
Office-based with travel up to 50% of time required. At times, required to work in a warehouse/plant/refinery/industrial environment, subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors. On occasion may work near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment, may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. May have to work in close confined spaces.
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 200ft, the ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates , valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance, and the ability to wear PPE including a respirator with no beard allowed.
