For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must

have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:High school diploma or GED. EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) years of animal care experience, four (4) of which must have been in animal control/shelter operations. EQUIVALENCY(IES):

An associate’s degree or higher in any field plus four (4) years of animal care experience, two (2) of which must have been in animal control/shelter operations will meet the education and experience requirements.

Valid ACO certification from the National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) plus four (4) years of animal care experience, two (2) of which must have been in animal control/shelter operations will meet the education, experience AND ACO certification requirements. LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Current basic Animal Control Officer (ACO) certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY(IES):

Knowledge of state and local codes/regulations regarding animals.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Basic computer skill to write reports and respond to open-records requests.

Ability to interact with the public on a daily basis.

Ability to oversee the work of animal care and office personnel. PREFERENCE(S):

Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Dallas Animal Services-Dangerous Dog position : Experience as an animal control officer which included rabies and dangerous-dog investigations required. Position will be responsible for responding to open-records requests, making public presentations and serving as an expert witness during hearings.
