Service Area Overview

Accredited by the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes & Nutrition Services at Northside Hospital offers a comprehensive diabetes, nutrition and weight management program. The focus of the program is to help people with diabetes obtain knowledge and develop the skills needed to make healthy lifestyle changes and minimize the risk of complications from diabetes. Our multidisciplinary team approach to nutrition includes registered dietitians, clinical exercise physiologists and other health specialists.

Position Description

Dietitian will be a Certified Specialist as recognized by appropriate governing body (ex: A.N.D, CDR, A.S.P.E.N., etc) (Certification ex: Oncology (CSO), Renal (CSR), etc). Specialist will perform duties in designated areas where their expertise will be best utilized. Prepares and implements nutritional care plans for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in accordance with departmental policy and standards of care. Prioritizes patients at high risk using daily Dietitian Census Reports. Initiates supplements, snacks, calorie counts and consistency changes as part of the patient’s individual medical condition. Incorporates current evidence-based research into clinical practice. Acts as a liaison between the Nutritional Services Department and the Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Ancillary Departments. Responsibilities involve providing nutritional counseling to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, families, and others as requested. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and weekend call. Must complete at least 5 hours of continuing education annually specific to the specialty certification, as well as maintain specialty certification throughout tenure of position.

Position Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, human nutrition, food and nutrition, nutrition education, or food systems management from an accredited college or university; and Successful completion of a supervised practice experience component in dietetic practice of not less than 900 hours as accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education (CADE); and Successful completion of the CDR examination. Must be a registered dietitian by the Commission on dietetic registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly A.D.A); credentials of RD and RDN accepted. Current Licensure as a dietitian with the state of Georgia. Certified Specialist as recognized by appropriate governing body. (governing body ex: A.N.D, CDR, A.S.P.E.N., etc) (Certification ex: Oncology (CSO), Renal (CSR), etc) OR Certified as a specialist as recognized by appropriate governing body within two (2) years of hire. (governing body ex: A.N.D., CDR, A.S.P.E.N., etc) (Certification ex: Oncology (CSO), Renal (CSR), etc) Greater than or equal to two (2) years experience in clinical dietetics with broad areas of expertise. PLUS greater than or equal to one (1) year in designated specialty area of focus. Competent and efficient use of computers. Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team Demonstrated knowledge of adult (and/or children as needed) education principles. Good written and oral communication skills. Preferred: Public Speaking experience preferred. Masters degree in nutrition highly preferred.
