Responsible for the preparation and beautification of classrooms, rest rooms, lobbies, common areas, offices, as well as other surrounding areas of the USC- Upstate campus. Under very limited supervision from the Custodial Services Supervisor or Superintendent of Building/ Custodial Services will perform custodial and housekeeping duties for assigned buildings or specified areas. May coordinate work with other custodial technicians.

  • In all functions must be in compliance with USC-UPSTATE General Housekeeping standards including, but not limited to the following areas: rest rooms, class rooms, lobbies, common areas, office areas, as well as all other building spaces. These tasks include, but are not limited to: while using Micro-fiber and Dilution Control cleaning processes, performs general cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, vacuuming floors/furniture, working with walk behind auto scrubbers, restroom cleaning with TFC 400 or KAIVAC, dry mopping, wet mopping, dusting, cleaning white boards/erasers in classrooms, realigning classroom chairs, cleaning windows, glass, mirrors, doors, fixtures, toilets, urinals, sinks, drinking fountains, maintaining all dispensers (soap, towel, tissue), emptying and sanitizing all waste and recycle containers, unlocking/locking doors, turning lights off/on, as well as other tasks necessary or essential to maintaining USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping Standards. In all functions of job performance, safe practices and training standards are to be met according to University policies and procedures. Technicians will be exposed to dust, trash, blood borne pathogens, strong chemical odors, recyclables and refuse, and will be required to work with a number of potentially dangerous cleaning chemicals including, but not limited to, the application of pesticides.
  • In all functions must be in compliance with all Transportation and SAFETY standards including, but not limited to the following, in relation to all building and other essential job functions. These tasks include, but are not limited to transporting mops/supplies between Facilities and assigned buildings, addressing building waste/recyclables by separating and transporting to designated disposal locations of dumpsters on campus as well as other tasks necessary or essential to maintaining USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping and Transportation standards. Ongoing Safety training through annual OSHA and regular safety meetings held. Attendance and participation are essential to USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping Standards.
  • In all functions must be in compliance with USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping Standards including, but not limited to the following areas: floor maintenance including working with auto scrubbers, floor machines, polishing, buffing, stripping, sealing, washing all types of floors, all methods of carpet/carpet care/cleaning including wet and dry, using portable or walk behind carpet extractors as well as other tasks necessary or essential to maintaining USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping Standards. In all functions of job performance, safe practices and training standards are to be met according to University policies and procedures.
  • Managing inventory supplies/ materials for all buildings, monitoring event communication by special event posts, inspecting and reporting any building deficiencies to respective departments by generating work requests, entering work functions and data into the work order management system and perform all other tasks as assigned to complete and document work necessary or essential to maintaining USC-UPSTATE Housekeeping Standards.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and 2 years related experience, or 10th grade education and 4 years related experience; or equivalency. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Successful background check is required.
