It seems as if Apple might be preparing to counter the Android tablet competition by losing some ‘inches’, since smaller 7″ tablets by several manufacturers running Android have started to surface and gain popularity. According to IDG News, this screen size will likely be adapted for the iPad 2/iPad Mini speculated to surface in December this year.
It is a fact that most of the Android touch tablets that have been released so far are equipped with a 7″ screen and as the competition sizes up, it would only make sense for Apple to target the same market with a smaller tablet of their own.
Here is what an article published in Economic Daily News – one of the leading financial newspapers of Taiwan – said that was translated by PC World as a 7 Inch iPad 2 or iPad Mini.
“The Economic Daily reports that Taiwanese companies have won a number of component contracts for the iPad 2. Chimei Innolux will supply 7-inch LCD screens, which use the same IPS (in-plane switching) technology found in the original iPad, which improves viewing angles and color on LCD screens. Touchscreen technology for the screens will come from Cando Corporation, the report says.”
According to the same source, this is the second report they have heard of such developments at Apple, the first one being made by Taiwan’s Digitimes newspaper barely a week before this one, mentioning preparations at Apple for a 7″ tablet.
The rumored estimated time of release of this 7” iPad is kept near the holiday season, Christmas of course. Do let us know what you think about the 7 Inch iPad and how it can compete with same sized Android tablets such as Dell Streak etc.
Would you buy a 7″ tablet? Which one would you prefer – an Android one or a 7″ iPad? If you currently use a 7″ Android tablet, would you switch to an iPad if it gets released in the same (or close) screen size? Don’t forget to let us know in the comments.
